PACKING LIST
We've compiled this list to make your job of packing for camp a lot easier. There is no need to over pack as there are laundry facilities at The Camp of Champions.
Bike Camp Packing List
Armor and Full Face Helmet
The Whistler Bike Park makes you pay in blood if you don’t armor up.
If you don’t have the full set, you can rent or buy it here in Whistler.
You can't ride the Whistler Bike Park with out a full face helmet. We recommend full back and chest armor as well
as shin, hip and forearm protection and gloves. If you aren't crashing you aren't learning so we want you to be able to walk away from crashes and ride all week.
Thin Waterproof Jacket
We get all kinds of weather in the summer, so prepare for anything from cold and muddy to stinking hot.
Hoody, Swim Trunks, Shorts
Bring something for the lake, pool or hot tub as well as a hoody for
the evenings. PACK LIGHT, THE DORM has laundry facilities so you can
do laundry as often as you want. The camp record is three shirts, one pair of shorts, jeans, 6 pairs of socks and one hoody for two weeks. You don’t have to pack that light but you’ll be glad you did. Plus... If your bags are stuffed when you arrive, how are going to get all you sponsor product and BBQ prizes home at the end of your session. Every year people say, "Man, I didn't even use half of the stuff I packed" Don't let that be you. Save yourself work and money at the airport by packing light.
Hydration Pack
When it’s hot, it’s hot. The best way to get around the heat and keep riding is to have a hydration pack. We recommend Dakine packs. All of our coaches use them and swear by them.
Sunglasses, Goggles
Flying mud and dust make riding without goggles or at least sunglasses stupid. We recommend Oakley goggles and sunglasses. You pretty much can’t ride the Bike Park without eye protection.
Extra Pair of Shoes
Extra shoes will make you happy if you have been riding in the mud all day.
Skateboard/BMX Bike
"The Compound" is ridiculous. The 365 Sports Big Air Bag, the dirt jumps, mulch pit and miniramp. The skatepark in Whistler is really fun too. Bring your deck, pads and a helmet as well. It’s a bit of work dragging an extra bike to Whistler but it’s worth it. If you are doing a camp session that includes use of our bikes, we have dirt jump bikes for The Compound waiting for you so just bring your skate.
Calling Card or Cell Phone
Call your parents IMMEDIATELY when you’ve arrived, so they know you’re OK. They’re worried about you. If you call them as soon as you arrive, they'll think your responsible and you'll be off the hook to have fun the rest of your session. We then won't have to hound you to call home when you parents phone the office worried about you because they haven't heard from you. If you bring a cell phone, Make sure you get Canada added onto your calling plan. Cell phone companies love nothing more than ripping you off for phone calls from a "foreign" country.
Dinner and Spending Money
- The Best is an ATM Card. That way if you lose your wallet you actually haven't lost any money. Dinner can be $20 Canadian dollars a night depending on what you like. We will be making sure you eat well at a restaurant so you can’t just go to McDonald's every night. We recommend $20 Canadian a day for junk. It’s amazing how many times a night you eat and drink after riding all day. Our convenience store in The Dorm, 6-10, has expanded it's menu with more healthy food as well as drinks, candy, snacks and slurpees.
Snowboard
It’s always better to ride the equipment you’re used to. If you don’t have your own, we have tons of demo boards and bindings to try for FREE from all kinds of companies. If you want to buy when you’re out here Showcase Snowboards has hook ups for campers all summer.
Skis
It’s always better to use the equipment you know. We can help you rent a pair in town if you don’t have skis. If you want to buy when you’re out here, 4FRNT Skis has special prices for campers on skis, bindings and poles. We have demos from 4FRNT but you have to ski down to the park to get them, so you need your own skis.
Snowboard Boots or Ski Boots
We have limited numbers and sizes of snowboard boots for demo but no ski boots, so make sure you bring your own. Pack your boots in your carry on luggage so if the airline loses the rest of your stuff you can still have a ripping camp.
Waterproof Jacket, Pants, Gloves
We get all kinds of weather in the summer, so prepare for anything from freezing cold to stinking hot. The waterproof pants don’t need to be thick. Most people just bring their normal snowboard/ski clothing. Two pairs of gloves are better than one since they’re going to be soaked at the end of every day.
Long Sleeve Shirts, Sweater/Hoody, Sweatpants, Swim Trunks, Shorts
Long sleeved shirts are great for hot days. We salt the pipe & jumps continuously day to keep them in shape, so the snow turns into tiny ice crystals very quickly. When you fall, it acts like a cheese grater on any exposed skin. It really hurts, but you get a great scab to brag about when you get home. Bring clothing layers to keep you warm on chilly days / evenings. Bring something for the lake, pool or hot tub. DON'T OVER PACK, The Dorm has laundry, and if you arrive with stuffed bags, how will you cart home all your free stuff you win at camp?
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is critical, it needs to be SPF 30 minimum. We recommend Vertra. Check Vertra.com to see where to get it. It’s new and amazing.
Sunglasses, goggles
If you don’t have good eye protection, we don’t let you up on the glacier. You can burn your eyes very easily up there. Please don’t bring cheap gas station specials, as these are worse than not wearing any protection at all.
Toque, Beanie, Baseball Cap, Helmet, Mouthguard
If you don’t have a helmet you're dumb. We don't make campers or coaches wear helmets but we highly recommend using a helmet at all times while you ride. An overlooked piece of protection is a mouthguard. They are awesome at preventing concussions. Teeth clacking together on a hard landing cause the most concussions.
Skateboard/BMX Bike
The miniramp in The Compound is a 40 foot wide piece of perfection and the skatepark in Whistler is really fun too. We added the 365 Sports Big Air Bag, dirt jumps, mulch pit, and North Shore Stunts Skill area to The Compound that will be so fun it's crazy. Bring your deck, pads and a helmet as well.
Calling Card or Cell Phone
Call your parents IMMEDIATELY when you’ve arrived, so they know you’re OK. They’re worried about you. If you call them as soon as you arrive, they'll think your responsible and you'll be off the hook to have fun the rest of your session. What about valuables?
The BEST place for valuables is at home. Gold chains, expensive watches, jewelery type stuff could be lost at camp. We don't have a theft problem but people put stuff down all the time at camp and then forget about the item. It's your responsibility to keep track of your stuff.
