What if my kid is really shy?

Don't worry. We can spot these kids a mile away, and they are never left out. The first night they arrive they meet their coach and the small, un-intimidating group he/she will be riding with (another 4 or 5 campers usually). If the shy camper is trying to hide in their room we know about it. Campers get up for breakfast and get their lift pass for that day. We know exactly who hasn't turned up that morning, so we go to their room to check it out.

If you talk to your child and he is feeling lonely or shy or has any problems, please call Ken Achenbach the Camp Director so he can get your kid sorted so that they are having a blast like everyone else. Don’t wait till the last day to tell us. Please tell us right away so we can do something about it.

One thing that we do suggest is use our Forums to meet other campers before you arrive, or use our message boards on www.snowboard.com,www.facebook.com, www.ski.colonies.com, ww.mtb.colonies.com, www.newschoolers.com or our myspace site and start making friends with other campers before you even arrive. That way you may be flying to camp on your own but once you get here you will be meeting your online friends and you'll have fun and forget about being shy right from the get go. This is one of the new things we have added this year to get as many shy kids to come out of their shells and have a blast at camp. The Forums on our site is also a great way to meet other campers flying from your town, so you can meet up and fly together.

The majority of the campers come on their own, so they're all making new friends right off the bat. We make great efforts to ensure the shy camper is included in the afternoon activities too. By the time their camp session is over, you wouldn't believe it was the same shy kid, just a few days ago. If you've still got concerns please contact us to discuss further.
