Ride More = Learn MoreĀ®
People on Pinkbike would always ask, why can't you ride after 4:30 - 5:00. Then they'd say "If I was in Whistler, I'd ride all day!" So we thought we'd could do something about that. Our whole theory on camp is "Ride More = Learn MoreĀ®" So last year we added dirt jumps, a mulch pit and
The Big Air Bag
to "The Compound" specifically so we could ride more. We made the whole dirt jump and Mulch pit area bigger. Added another jump onto the big line and add a medium line. The Big Air Bag taught everyone how to ride dirt jumps so quickly no one hit the small line so we are making the mulch pit wider to get more take off options. Our coaches that got 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th in Crankworx 2010 said "The Compound" was a big part on why they did so well. Stoked!
So Insanely Fun - Air Bags are the Future!
When we first thought, "How can we get more riding?" We got crazy and thought, "We have an airbag on the glacier for the snowboarders and skiers, we should get one for The Compound so the mountain bikers can get the same possibilities for progression." So we did. It turned into the most fun thing we have added to The Camp of Champions n years. Everyone was sending it. The landings were so safe that pro skiers and snowboarders were borrowing DJ bikes and learning flips into the bag.
Use your energy to learn new tricks instead of digging out.
When you ride hit a foam pit you use most of your energy simply getting out of the foam. With a Big Air Bag, if you land on your wheels you can roll right out of the bag and ride away. If you don't land on your wheels you stand up grab your bike and walk or roll off. It's such quick turn around that you get triple the amount of riding that you do with a foam pit and you wear yourself out riding, not digging yourself out for the foam.
You can ride for 4 hours a NIGHT in the "The Compound" after riding the Whistler Bike Park all day. You can now ride from 10 til 10 every day at The Camp of Champions. We'd light "The Compound" but come on, you have to sleep sometime.
The Camp of Champions and "The Big Air Bag" have added a whole new dimension to summer camps and riding in Whistler.
