Skill level

One of the things we really stress at the Camp of Champions is that no matter what your skill level, as long as you have the basic "I can turn and stop" down, you will have a blast at The Camp of Champions. Our park is double the size of any summer park anywhere and you get double the on snow time compared to any camp at Mt. Hood. What that means is this - our beginner/intermediate area is bigger than any other camps entire park. More space = more features for you to learn the basics on and more features for you to keep stepping up your ability on. The more varied terrain helps you learn faster as well.

If you are in the "I want to go pro" category, you'll love our park as well. With more features for experts you have more different styles of umps and rails to learn on. Exactly what you need to have a well rounded skill set as a pro. There's a reason almost every pro comes to COC in the summer. Because it's the best.

What's the snow like in summer?

Hard packed in the morning, slushy in the afternoon. The snow conditions are great even though it's the middle of summer. The pipe and park are always in great shape, Arena Snowparks grooms and tunes the COC Park every night. COC is the only camp in the world that grooms every single feature in the park every night. There is no better place to ride in the summer than COC. Every summer d we seem to get one or two days where we are riding fresh snow. The record is 18inches overnight. All the midwest kids said it was their best day of the year.

What's the temperature up on the mountain?

The weather systems on the glacier can change in minutes. We recommend putting a shell or extra layer in your backpack just to be safe. It can be hot in the valley and raining or snowing or just plain shady and chilly on the glacier. It’s best to have the clothes in your pack and not need them rather than wish you had them.

SUN BLOCK, SUN BLOCK, SUN BLOCK. We recommend Vertra Elemental Resistance, it is a new brand made in Hawaii. It’s the best water and sweat resistant and non greasy sunscreen we’ve ever used. The weather systems at 8000 ft can change in minutes. It can be really hot up there and you will burn unless you apply a 40 factor sun block regularly to all exposed skin. It can also be really cold so be prepared and still apply sun block. You can still get sunburn through clouds. Crazy but true.

Do snowboarders and skiers share the same features in the park?

Yes, everyone shares the same terrain, the only difference is you will be instructed by the appropriate coach for whatever you are riding. We don't care what you use, as long as you're stoked. The best part about everyone sharing the same facilities is the fact that it pushes you. When you are a snowboarder and you see a skier go off it pushes you to ride harder. The same goes if you are a skier and see the snowboarders going off. The only facility that is skier-only is the water ramps.

What time can I get on the chairlift?

You can get on the lift at 10am every morning. You can ride until 4:30pm with your coach. After a break we hit the dirt jumps, mulch pit and Air Bag in "The Compound" until it's almost too dark to see. At THe Camp of Champions you get almost double the amount of riding and coaching that you receive at any other camp. Our theory is "Ride More = Learn More", you can't learn if you aren't riding so we make sure you can get as much riding as is physically possible.

You can get on the lift at 7:15am every morning. You can ride until 3:00pm. This is 3 hours longer a day riding and 3 hours a day longer being coached than you receive at Mount Hood where they ride from 10:30am to 2:30pm. The day is a lot shorter at Mount Hood because you have to drive 45 minutes each way just to get on the snow. At COC you simply walk 30 steps to the lift after your 1 minute shuttle ride from the Dorm. It's all part of our "Ride More = Learn More" learning process. You can't learn if you aren't riding so we make sure you can get as much riding as is physically possible.

How far away are the lifts from the accommodation?

It's a two-minute bike ride to the lifts from The COC hotel.

It is a short walk to the lifts from THE DORM. We are right above the base of the Wizard chair. We also have shuttles to take you to and from the lifts so you don't have to walk if you don't want to.

Is the altitude a big deal?

Whistler Village is at 675meters/2114feet. The mountain top is at 2284meters/7494 feet so the altitude isn't a big deal. You don't have to worry about the altitude like you do in Colorado or some of the mountains in Europe. Mount Hood's top altitude is over 1000 feet higher at almost 9000 feet.

What about lunch?

Lunch straight up rules at The Camp of Champions. It's good to re-energize for your afternoon of riding.

John and Deanne, two Whistler locals who owned Ingrid's Deli since time began, prepare the lunch fresh every morning. Lunch is transported up to our facility on the glacier by our staff. It’s basically an amazing deli transported up the mountain so you can make your lunch 5 seconds before you eat it.

A huge selection of different breads, buns, tortillas, deli cuts, toppings and condiments await you. It's served smorgasbord style so you don't have to drag a bag lunch up the mountain with you everyday, like you do at other camps. Our lunch takes into account all diets. "Meatetarian, Vegetarian, Vegan, PB and Jam, Only food that is blue." No matter what your lunch diet is we have you covered.

Lunch is at around 11:30AM at the giant COC tent. So, make your masterpiece gourmet sandwich, grab some chips and a drink, then chill. You'll be energized for your afternoon session.

There is water and Gatorade available all day on the glacier so you don't have to worry about getting dehydrated

We have tables reserved at "The GLC" our favorite lunch place in town that also happens to be right at the base of the bike park. You can watch the carnage while enjoying the Carne. Our lunch menu is the most amazing menu of any summer camp. Beef Dip, Mahi Mahi, Chicken, Salads, and the best fries in town. We we launched the 6-10 we asked where they get theirs from and they hooked us up. You will roll back to park ready to give'r for the afternoon. Lunch is usually around 1:00PM or whenever the coach and your crew are feeling it.
