The Dorm takes camp accommodation to a whole new level
The Dorm
We formed a partnership with Whistler Blackcomb to create "THE DORM" and turn it into the dopest, freshest action sports place to stay anywhere.
We took over two of Whistler Blackcomb's Staff Housing buildings, one was remodeled top to bottom in 2007 and the other building was completely remodeled in 2009. New flooring, furniture, paint, and other upgrades. The accommodations are still spartan but that's exactly what we like about it. You can skate and ride your bike in the hall until 7:00PM. Each unit is a 2 bedroom suite with bunks for four people. We can finally take care of everyone's favorite request, more than one other friend in a unit. Camp has never been as fun as it is now because you can finally stay with all the friends you come to camp with.
Once we take over the buildings we put the COC stamp on them and turn them into what we dream a shred hotel should be. First up, make them fun, so we put in custom COC sheets, pillow cases and towels, drop four games rooms loaded with multiple 61" flatscreen TV's linked to XBoxes playing Rockband 2 and all the other latest EA games. Apple computers are in each games room too, just to make them totally over the top great.
The COC Store/Demo Room opens with all the latest collabo clothing and accessories from our sponsors and more demo snowboard equipment than you can imagine. The bike room is loaded with the latest bikes from our sponsors. We put in our own 24 hour front desk, the 6-10 convenience store with it's Slurpee machine, food, drinks and snacks and then The Resto, our new restaurant that will have great food so campers never have to leave our playground.
A lot of campers said their favorite feature of THE DORM was the couches on the stoop we dubbed "Sanford and Son" where you could chill and be in the middle of the maelstrom of good times that COC is famous for.
The Compound
To make THE DORM even better we expanded "THE COMPOUND". We blew out the sides and now it's
15,000 square feet. Imagine how much fun you can have in a 4000 square foot tent with a 40 foot
wide mini ramp, 61" flatscreens linked to Xboxes, a 2600 watt sound system to simulate the
actual concert experience while playing Rockband. We also stuff in pool and Ping Pong
tables, foosball tables, vintage video games, couches, and more.
Outside the tent we have a Basketball court and dodgeball area. Games of "Bump" and Dodgeball
run pretty much non stop. There are street obstacles for skating, and new this year "
Dumken Donuts". Fresh mini donuts, hot chocolate and vitamin water right in the tent just
like everyone asked for. Every Sunday we have a pizza party for departing 5 day campers
with prizes for everyone. Every Wednesday evening we have a giant BBQ with a DJ plugging
into our 2600 watt system turning our end of camp BBQ into a huge party. Everyone gets
prizes, all the BBQ they can eat and one last chance before they leave to hang out with
all their new best friends before heading back to THE DORM to pack for the trip home. Some
campers had so much fun they didn't want to leave so they called their parents to
stay longer. We've never had so many campers extend their stay as we did in 2009.
The crazy part is after 22 years of holding The Camp of Champions, moving to THE DORM, building THE COMPOUND and finally having "Our Own Playground" where we didn't have to tone down how much fun we could have, last summer felt like we finally got the formula right for an amazing, off the hook, summer camp. Just wait for 2011!
